Jodie's Journey-Shrinking Muffin Top-Punches Temptation in the Face!
I have been kicking this Keto Diets ass! I just finished my third week of following the diet religiously and exercising regularly and I feel pretty darn good about myself. I have had to overcome some huge hurdles too where in the past I would have ate myself into a coma. Last week my boss came out on the floor and told us that a co-worker of ours had been killed the night before. After the initial shock wore off, the waterworks started and pretty much lasted the entire day. The bosses, bless their hearts, decided that the best way to make everyone feel better and get them thru the day, was to order mountains of food from Italia Gardens. Trays of Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo, Sausage Mostaccioli with cheese, and Buttery Breadsticks. Someone else brought in bags of assorted chocolate and…..skittles. Everyone knows how much I love skittles. Like I said, they were trying to make us feel better and nothing makes me feel better then skittles. Normally I would have been belly up to the trough, face first in a plate piled high with pasta and candy but not this time! I didn't touch one bite of the carb-toxic feast! I’m trying to reprogram my brain to not immediately turn to food when i’m unhappy and this day proved to be the perfect opportunity to start.
Last week I told you about my occupation as a Public Punching Bag, but what I didn't tell you was that I have to endure this abuse for 12 hours a day. We are so short staff that most of my 12 hour days turn into 16 hour days. I’m getting good at packing a healthy, low-carb carry-on bag for the day but what is hard about these long days is sitting on my butt for 16 hours. We are given a whole whopping 10 minute break every hour and half and I have been utilizing this break by walking around the parking lot. We also have consoles that rise up so you can stand. I try to stand for most of the day and dance in place at times. This dancing always manages to elicit ridicule from my co-workers, but I don't care as long as I’m closing all three rings on my apple watch! Those of you with an apple watch know what I’m talking about. The coveted trifecta known as Move, Exercise, and Stand. This past week was my first perfect week of closing all three everyday! Woo Hoo!
If you haven't guessed already, a lot of the people I work with are overweight. The stress eating combined with the long hours sitting tethered to a desk make it extremely hard to stay in shape. In addition to that, no one likes an unhappy dispatcher so the people we dispatch for..Police, Fire Fighters and Emt’s…like to keep us happy by feeding us. We have a round, lazy-susan type desk in the middle of our dispatch consoles and it is always piled up with food. We call this lazy-susan “The Trough” I took a picture of “The Trough” this week so you could see first hand the daily temptations I have to endure.[if gte vml 1]><o:wrapblock><v:shapetype id="_x0000_t75" coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" o:preferrelative="t" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" filled="f" stroked="f"> <v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke> <v:formulas> <v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f> <v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f> </v:formulas> <v:path o:extrusionok="f" gradientshapeok="t" o:connecttype="rect"></v:path> <o:lock v:ext="edit" aspectratio="t"></o:lock> </v:shapetype><v:shape id="officeArt_x0020_object" o:spid="_x0000_s1026" type="#_x0000_t75" style='position:absolute;margin-left:45.6pt;margin-top:13.05pt; width:375.8pt;height:281.85pt;z-index:251659264;visibility:visible; mso-wrap-style:square;mso-wrap-distance-left:12pt;mso-wrap-distance-top:12pt; mso-wrap-distance-right:12pt;mso-wrap-distance-bottom:12pt; mso-position-horizontal:absolute;mso-position-horizontal-relative:margin; mso-position-vertical:absolute;mso-position-vertical-relative:line' strokeweight="1pt"> <v:stroke miterlimit="4"></v:stroke> <v:imagedata src="file:///C:/Users/Owner/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image001.jpg" o:title=""></v:imagedata> <w:wrap type="topAndBottom" anchorx="margin" anchory="line"></w:wrap> </v:shape><![endif][if !vml]

As you can see, my console with the exercise ball is just a bounce away from a 10 pound gain disaster!
I’ve been thinking a lot about food and mindless eating lately and had an epiphany of sorts. Cheating and eating something that I know I shouldn't would give me maybe 10 minutes of pleasure. Why would I want to ruin everything for 10 minutes of pleasure? Pleasure that will turn into guilt and self-hate as soon as the last bite is swallowed. Not eating it and losing the weight I need to lose will give me a lifetime of pleasure! The pleasure that comes in fitting into all my cute clothes again, looking awesome and fit, feeling good about myself and knowing that I’m healthy! Ten minutes or a Lifetime?? When all my coworkers are belly up to “The Trough” and I so badly want to get my snout in there, I just keep running that choice thru my brain. So far I have made the right decision, turned around, and put in 20 more minutes of console dancing! I am going to fit into my Hunter boots without boot muffin top by January!!!
