Massage Therapy & Your Health

January 11, 2016

We all talk about making a massage appointment because it feels good. But did you ever stop to think about the REAL benefits that massage therapy actually does for your body? Well, in the light of recent changes for the New Year, let's enlighten you in the ways of the massage.

During this cold winter season, we spend most of our time and energy on just trying to stay warm and not get sick. Well, I'm here to tell you that, there's another way to help with that problem. MASSAGES can actually boost your immunity! This may be a little hard to process, but it's true! By getting a massage, you are boosting the count of your white blood cells. Just in case you didn't know, your white blood cells are the good cells that protect your body against diseases.

Along with boosting immunity, Massages can actually help sooth anxiety and depression. Having a professional, friendly touch can be just what the doctor ordered. By this I mean, there are some studies that have given insight to those with high anxiety and/or depression. But giving the test subjects a massage, they found a significant reduction in feeling angry, upset or depressed. That's saying a lot, considering we all have every day stress that needs to be released every now and then.

Both previously stated benefits are BIG, but one thing that you could use more of, relief from headaches. We all know what brings on a tension headache...STRESS! By booking a last minute massage, this can help relieve the pressure build up from every day life. Studies have found that by getting a massage, helps to reduce chronic headaches so you can get on with your daily duties.

Moving along from relieving pain from headaches, we all know that muscle pain is the worst! By booking a massage for your muscle pain, you are helping to improve your circulation and get more blood flow to damaged or stressed areas.

Now, if you have ever had a massage, you may notice yourself drifting asleep every now and then. Well, that's because it helps improve relaxation. By giving you a healthy support for relaxation and promoting sleep, your body should be rested and ready to go on with the rest of your day.

And as an added bonus, I bet you didn't know this one! We talk about getting lots of exercise because we have desk jobs and need to get our blood pumping, well, I'm here to tell you that Massages can Counteract all the Sitting you do. If you normally have pain in your neck and shoulders, then you could definitely use a Massage. Stress tends to manifest in the neck and shoulder area. If left alone for a long period of time, you will soon see more stress in your lower back. This is when you need to book a massage as soon as possible to help straighten out your body before any more problems. Massages counteract the imbalance of sitting, giving your desk job a fighting chance.

More and more people are getting massages for all sorts of reasons. At least now, you are able to find the health benefits of getting one. Not that we didn't need one to begin with (since they feel amazing), but we are continually finding benefits of massages.
