Beat the Holiday Blues

December 21, 2015

We all know that the holidays tend to bring stress, stress and more STRESS! But this holiday, we're going to dominate it!

We are constantly making little mistakes that set us back in BIG ways. The holidays come with plenty of tasty treats to go around. Anything from cakes and cookies...for santa (wink-wink), are just disasters waiting to happen! But let's face it, the best part of the holidays is finally getting to splurge from the year long watching of what you eat. Now, now, we're not saying to avoid all those things, but let's be smart about it.

When we are stressed, we tend to think food. Well, we're here to help! Just like we talked about previously in our tips for beating the holidays, we tend to not eat to make sure that we are extra hungry for the holidays. And WE ALL KNOW, that is not the way to go. Instead of waiting all day to eat, follow your stomach. In the realm of the EXTREME HUNGER spectrum of the hoidays, we end of getting symptoms involving: bloating, crankiness and fatigue. WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE! To avoid these symptoms and the growing hunger pains of not eating throughout the day, drink a glass of water or get a healthy snack.

When it comes to being healthy and watching what you eat it can be difficult. There are some of us that have it easy with their unfailing dedication to being fit, but for the rest of us, we struggle a little to get started and stay going on the right path. When it comes down to it, we just need to S L O W ourselves down. Sitting at the dinner table with family all around, while they scrounge like an lion eating it's prey, take a moment to see what all is offered. By slowing yourself down to the immediate jumping into the piles of food on the table, you have a better chance of survival. Not only that, but you will be able to avoid those nasty hunger symptoms!

And yes, I know we've gone over this before, but dehydration adds to stress and crankiness. We are all guilty of not getting enought water throughout the day, but this is a wise tip from the professionals. Drinking 8 glasses of water a day, keeps you hydrated and ready for the festivities.

One EXTREMELY IMPORTANT tip for stress this season is TAKE A BREATH and BE REALISTIC ABOUT EXPECTATIONS. Sometimes we all forget that we all need to breathe. Feel that oxygen flow in and out of your lungs, filling it with life, gives you more than just survival. By taking a deep breath, you are pumping more and more cells to the brain and throughout the body, giving it time to heal from the outside forces (like stress). By doing this, you are allowing yourself to STOP and THINK about what is going on around you. Oh, DON'T YOU DENY IT! We all get to that point when things are moving so fast you are forgetting to stop and smell the roses! When you give your brain that oxygen it CRAVES, you are able to think more rationally. You tend to have more realtistic expectations about things like....making a 10 course meal or buy extra gifts for those family members that you have to buy for.

AND IF NONE OF THAT WORKS JUST GIVE UP BECAUSE THERE IS NO HELPING YOU!

OF COURSE WE'RE KIDDING!

Some of the best moments of Holiday History are spent in visualization. What we mean by this is, FIND YOUR HAPPY PLACE! We all have those times when we're about done with our family members (we love them, but sometimes we just need a break), that's when you either drink or find your happy place. ALWAYS CHOOSE THE HAPPY PLACE (it's less calories). Pretend you're on a beach, hiking the Alps or the FIT BOX working out that aggression!

Not matter what the stress is, YOU CAN WORK THROUGH IT!

MERRY (STRESS-LESS) CHRISTMAS!

p.s. don't forget to stop to the fit box if you haven't yet!
